🎄 Day 12 — Brown Gravy Mix (25 Days of Simple)

December 12, 2025

Save any meal — and every holiday roast.

Some recipes feel like big, flashy holiday moments… but Brown Gravy Mix?
It’s the quiet hero — the one that steps in at the last second to pull everything together.

During December, when meals come fast and time moves even faster, I love having a jar of this clean, whole-food gravy mix tucked into my pantry. No mystery packets, no preservatives, just real ingredients that make dinner taste like comfort.

It takes less than 5 minutes to mix up but gives you weeks of peace.

A Memory That Makes Gravy Feel Like Home

Growing up, gravy wasn’t just a sauce — it was part of the ceremony.
My mom would stand at the stove with her old wooden spoon, whisking and tasting, trying to get it “just right.”

When it finally thickened, she’d pour it into the same ceramic gravy boat she used every single holiday. I remember leaning over the table just so I could breathe in the steam — it smelled like warmth, family, and belonging.

Now I make this simple mix each year, and my kids know that same smell.
It’s amazing how food becomes tradition without us even realizing it.

✨ The Recipe: Homemade Brown Gravy Mix

Ingredients

  • ½ cup arrowroot powder
  • ½ cup coconut milk powder or clean organic milk powder
  • 3 tbsp beef broth powder (clean-ingredient brand)
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tbsp nutritional yeast (adds richer “umami” flavor)

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a jar and shake until fully combined.
  2. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months in a cool pantry.
  3. To make gravy:
    • Whisk 3 tablespoons of mix with 1 cup cold water or broth.
    • Warm in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
    • Season to taste.

How to Use Your Gravy Mix

  • Over roasted turkey or chicken
  • Poured on mashed potatoes
  • In shepherd’s pie
  • Over meatballs
  • With pot roast
  • Over biscuits
  • For last-minute comfort meals
  • To save a dry holiday roast 😉

This one jar carries SO much simplicity through the season.
